History
Vincent was the firstborn of two sons to Grimoire Valentine, a well-known scientist, in Boston, Mass.. When he was young, Vincent was bright, happy, and took after his father in brains. His younger brother, Vladimir, was less academically inclined, as well as sickly, and Vincent spent much of his time looking after the little boy, which Vladimir resented. Vincent was very fond of Vladimir, and was almost anal in his care-taking, letting nothing happen to him. One day, when Vincent and Vladimir were walking to school, their mother called Vincent back for his lunch, and he left Vladimir on the corner, telling him to stay put. Vladimir, resenting his brother, barely two years his senior, bossing him around all the time, decided to cross the street alone. Vincent ran back to find his brother dead, hit by a car in morning rush hour.

Vladimir's death struck a heavy blow to the Valentine household, especially to Vincent, who was only seven at the time. He blamed himself for leaving Vladimir on the corner like that, blamed himself for not taking Vladimir back with him. Surely, he thought, if Vladimir had been healthier, he would have been less inclined to take care of him. And so, as a form of repenting, Vincent threw himself heart and soul into medicine and science, feeling that was the only way to ease his conscious. He drew further into a thick shell that would continue to grow throughout his life.

When Vincent was twelve, he discovered his abilities through odd chance. His father, moderately amazed, decided to move the family to New Amsterdam, where there were laboratories dealing with cases like Vincent's. Throughout Vincent's adolescence, he was surrounded by the science and experiments of SEED. Through one of the experiments, the contents of which Vincent was oblivious to, his father died. Vincent had always been fond of his father, so this sent him even deeper into his shell, only to be cast down farther when his mother, grief-stricken, died within three months of his father. To support himself, he worked for SEED, feeding his brain with all the books and people he encountered, to distract him from his grief.

At eighteen, he met Lucrecia Crescent, one Hojo's assistants. The two became friends, and Lucrecia started pulling Vincent out of the shell Vladimir's death still had him cast into. Ultimately, he fell in love with her, but when, through a coworker, he discovered she had been working with his father on the mysterious experiment, she ran away from him and avoided him. In a search for her, he discovered a room in SEED dedicated to experiments on humans, thus discontinuing his search.

Vincent, who resented using live humans as test-subjects, confronted Hojo and ended up getting physically aggressive, for while he was quiet by nature, he had a fierce temper, until Hojo shot him in the stomach. Since such large wounds took Vincent longer to recover from, he passed out for a short time, in which Hojo strapped him to an operating table and started experimenting on him.

When Vincent awoke, his response to his modified body was rage and anguish, as well as to the odd realization that he had gone to sleep two years ago and was now woken up in an abandoned building, SEED having moved after his experiments were finished. His appearance had changed, as well, his hair having grown out several inches. Rampage followed, the acts of which he didn't remember afterwards, except for news reports of murder, mayhem and maniacs. Through investigation, he discovered that Lucrecia had died from a failed experiment, like his father. This, with his own suspicion at being linked to the news reports, was a final blow to Vincent's conscious, sending him into a state of misery and guilt, feeling he should have protected Lucrecia better, as he should have protected Vladimir better. He took up residence in Dalmasca, hiding behind a mountain of books, venturing out every now and again for fresh air and possibly food.

Zodiac
Pisces is the twelfth sign of the Zodiac and indicates the final stage of development in a human being. Being born under the sign of the fish, you are therefore at a stage of completion in your development and will have a strong sense of your place in the spiritual scheme of things. Compassion and a universal approach to life underlie most of what you do. You cannot stand to see suffering of any sort and will go out of your way to help others, even helpless animals, if you feel as though you can relieve their pain. You’ll always be sought out by those in distress, because your presence makes them feel calm and assured.

Being ruled by Neptune, the perceptive and psychic planet also reveals your emotional depths and sensitivity on every level. You instinctively wish to help others and to surrender your own interests in furthering the life of those you care for. Often, however, you tend to avoid the hard decisions, particularly with close friends and family members, and end up playing the victim in a recurring cycle of sacrificial game-playing. One of your important lessons in life will be to balance your needs with the needs of others.

The way you approach life is not often rational or intellectual by other people’s standards; they see you as a bit of a daydreamer. Strangely, your intuitive insights are often correct and your accurate foresight will leave others reeling. But intuition may go only so far, and you must learn to develop your thinking processes, as difficult as this may be for you.

Although religion in the strictest sense of the word may not be your forte, you have an understanding of the connectedness of life and can therefore be considered spiritual. You have a tremendous imagination and use this to further this spiritual urge, as well as expanding your creative desires. Being a highly emotional individual works both for and against you, and your sensitivity will cripple you from time to time as you absorb both the good and bad vibrations from people in your environment. Learning to become just a little more thick-skinned wouldn’t be a bad idea, Pisces.

You have strong visions of the way you would like to see the world and very often this doesn’t fit the picture of reality as you experience it. This brings a gap in your consciousness that could cause you to tune out and live in your own world of make-believe. That would be tragic because you have so much to offer the real world. Using your mystical, creative and spiritual talents to uplift your community and the world at large is essential for you to find meaning in your life. If, however, you are like a small proportion of Pisces and can never reconcile these two opposing views of the world, you could resort to alcohol, drugs and other addictive patterns of living that will undermine your existence.

At heart you are very gentle, impressionable, and receptive—a dreamer, in fact. The world of your imagination, feelings, and intuition is as real to you as anything in the outer world, though you may have trouble verbalising or interpreting your inner experiences in a way others can understand. Mystical, artistic, musical, emotional and imaginative, you have a rich inner life, though you may seem rather unobtrusive and quiet outwardly. You usually keep to yourself. Because you give and feel freely, you find it very hard to limit yourself, but excessive and wasteful living must be disciplined if you are to hope for any equilibrium in your life. You have so much to give and once you find the appropriate balance, you can contribute immensely to your family and the world as a whole and thus fulfil yourself.

Powers
Canon Power(s): Vincent, while not the most physically powerful character in Final Fantasy VII, is a skilled gunslinger dna can cast magic well, making him an ideal distance fighter. His weapons include various firearms, each described in-game as "Long-Range Weapon". Due to Hojo's anatomic reconstruction of Vincent and the presence of Chaos within him, he does not age and possesses a number of supernatural abilities, including metamorphosis and the ability to fly.

Modified Power: Vincent was born a Syn with the power to shape-shift, which was exploited by scientists he met later in his life. Growing up, he had control over his power, but thanks to their experiments and some attempts to add new ones, he lost control of his forms, and himself when he was in them. Now, he changes form while in a rage, and has no control of when he changes back.
